Recap: With the exception of perhaps a really popular battle rapper returning to the scene after a long hiatus or un-retiring after a long lay off, even if we’re being generous, I just don’t see the purpose in a battle rapper needing more than 5 minutes to spit his bars per round. I mean, what more do you need to say that can’t be said in 4 to 5 minutes? Seriously. Condense your shit. That rapping for 10 minutes straight may sound dope on paper and certainly becomes useful when arguing about top tier battlers who too often come unprepared. But forgive the fan who puts off watching a battle that’s near an hour long because he or she has more important stuff to do. All that said, JollyJay vs. Dizaster in Germany at 40-plus minutes long (with Diz turning in a minimum of 7 to 11 minutes per round when he wasn’t choking away his 2nd round and insisting on continuing what was an already longwinded final turn after the host tried to stop battle) and littered with hard-hitting/mocking personals on each side, comes down to the more punch-heavy, witty, scheme/storytelling-rich and angle-lit JollyJay taking both of the opening rounds for the win.
Verdict: JollyJay (W) 2-1
Favorite line: JollyJay – “Worst battle ever, could hardly believe it, like leaving Neverland…don’t feel the same way about a legend after we’ve seen it!”
