Recap: Like the infamous Jordan “Flu Game”, even when they’re not at their best, the great one’s can still find a way to grind it out and win. Indeed, after getting blown away by a punch/personal-heavier, witty and versatiel Jaz the Rapper in round 1 of this URL ‘Kings vs. Queens 4’ battle and in front of a waning crowd that was on some ‘here we go again’ vibe what with Charlie Clips freestyling too much and seemingly not taking this highly anticipated matchup seriously, the Harlem legend somehow manages to get his groove back and edge both of the latter rounds for the win. Not that Clips didn’t require any help for his opponent, as Jaz’s lengthy 2nd and 3rd rounds, while for the most part entertaining (she even had ‘Black Jesus’ make an appearance), were too often dipped in filler and repetitive with the personals. But after a very so-so round 1, Clips would still need to step it up big-time to have any chance of winning. And he did, using a more steady barrage of penetrating off-the-dome heat, slick humor, brash personals, fiesty schemes, hitting name flips and stinging punchlines in both round’s 2 and 3 to complete the comeback.
Verdict: Charlie Clips (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Charlie Clips – “I’m glad you from Brooklyn, that mean you was trained to take an ‘L’!”
