Fonz defeats Bad Newz

Recap: In a battle that was apparently supposed to happen earlier this year, Fonz and Bad Newz were still able to put on a dope and competitive contest for 3 rounds on Bullpen Battle League. Indeed, what with plenty of aggressive darts on both sides, the energy in the room was matched with a plethora of hard-hitting punchlines, rich metaphors, gritty street lines, boastful barbs and wily personals from two battlers who both came to win. However, Newz’s constant stumbling block of overwriting, present in all 3 rounds and fixated on repeated themes, combined with a more condensed Fonz also adding some witty personals, steely wordplay and pretty solid storytelling to mix, allows The Landlord to edge rounds 1 and 2 for the win before a debatable 3rd.

Verdict: Fonz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Fonz – “You fought a nigga with one eye, you a true bitch, I bet if that nigga had two eyes you wouldn’t do shit!”

JC defeats Bad Newz

Recap: From Bullpen Battle League, mixing in some witty personals to his usual m.o. of vengeance-filled morbid raps, sturdy name flips, fiery wordplay and big-ass gun lines, a more condensed, haymaker-lit and efficient JC earns a 30 over a gritty and competitive throughout, but elongated and not as consistently-hitting Bad Newz.

Verdict: JC (W) 3-0

Favorite line: JC – “And they be glad to strike, I’m ambidextrous, he only get left for bragging rights!”

Danny Myers defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Despite a gang of fierce (including a fire ‘God…GD’ line) punches and bodacious street raps from Bad Newz (who might want to update his personals on future opps), in this last-minute, but still competitive 1-rounder from M4M TV, it’s Danny Myers’ wicked combo of slick metaphors, consistently hitting punchlines, head-ringing name flips, piercing gun bars and fire rebuttals/freestyles (including a dope flip of the previously mentioned ‘God…GD’ bar that earns the Bar God emcee the win.

Verdict: Danny Myers (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Danny Myers – “Speaking of switch, I’ll grab a stick from the trunk, I’ll lift and blast, face shot, coroner’s coudn’t recognize him but said ‘this is Bad’!”

Geechi Gotti defeats Bad Newz

Recap: From Bullpen Battle League, outside of a so-so 3rd round Bad Newz turned it up here. The Atlanta vet keeping it competitive and standing toe-to-toe with Geechi Gotti with a consistent barrage of fire punchlines, aggressive street talk, some solid personals and stinging gun bars. But proving once again why he’s a mainstay on anyone’s top tier list, Gotti’s ability to steady serve up a bunch of fire rebuttals, fiery name flips, boastful barbs, witty personals, some killer schemes and his own parlay of grity gang talk loaded with hard-hitting punches and steely gun lines would just prove to be too much over the course of 3 rounds, whiel landing Geechi a Gentleman’s 30.

Verdict: Gechi Gotti (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Geechi Gotti – “Nigga you shoulda called off, ‘cuz ain’t no way you winnng this, even to save your life, even in the strip club the shit you spit gonna be the most ass we see on this stage tonight!”

Bad Newz defeats Street Hymns

Recap: Not sure why Street Hymns would dish so many long-winded schemes in a tournament battle. That said, in addition to a topsy-turvy punch game that featured a handful of reaches and a Bad Newz that was just consistently gritty/hard-hitting with the pen (when he wasn’t scoring with fierce name flips and some stellar personals), this one-sided Season 1 tourney battle was pretty much decided after round 1.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “Shot 5 times, you think being a virgin is tough? that’s a whole ‘nother hard!”

Bad Newz defeats OG Grizzly

Recap: A wily, but topsy-turvy effort from OG Grizzly ends up being no match for Bad Newz, who in this 3-rounder from Bullpen Battle League, uses a gang of hardbody punches, rigid gun bars, graphic mayhem and random old jokes to edge round 1 before handily taking both of the latter rounds for the shutout.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “Nigga, my trigger finger always itching when I’m gripping the .4, so I popped a perp…man that bitch started itching some more!”

Bad Newz defeats Snake Eyez

Recap: If only Bad Newz could match his heat and aggression with more consistently hitting punches more often. Indeed, his battle rap career could be on a much different path. Because when Newz lands his haymakers, more often than not they shake the room due to the Bronx-to-ATL rapper’s sheer intensity and steely set-up ability. That being the case, taking advantage of a Snake Eyez who was a bit too bent on rundown Dot Mobb personals when he wasn’t spitting a gang of aggressive, but lukewarm darts in the opening rounds, a more momentous, brazen, at times wordplay/name flip-lit and personal/street-savvy Newz gets the win in this 3-round, crowd-audacious from Bullpen before Snake would get his comeuppance in a fire and steady-hitting 3rd to edge the final round and avoid the 30.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “You know you can’t believe nuthin’ that come outta Snake’s lips, them bitches tongues is split!”

Bad Newz defeats Boze The Bambino

Recap: From LetsTalkAboutIt TV, assisted by opponent Boze The Bambino’s topsy-turvy name flips as well as a couple of longer, but not quite as qualitative turns, a loud and aggressive, but also consistently hard-hitting, name flip-lit and raucous with the heat Bad Newz takes the first two rounds of this competitive 3-rounder for the win, before a cleaner flowing, punchline-lit and steadily fiery Boze took the 3rd.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “You getting damaged, all 3 rounds you getting vanished, ‘cuz I keep the stick and light up any card I touch better than Gambit!

Ace Amin defeats Bad Newz

Recap: A battle that didn’t quite live up to the hype, but still had a bunch of controversy come with it due to Bad Newz supposedly dedicating his entire 2nd round (which he clearly didn’t) to some allegation Ace Amin made against him beforehand, this Ultimate Madness matchup stayed close despite both combatants dishing a boatload of pedestrian lines and subpar name flips in between your usual fare of boastful stunting, laissez-faire street theatrics and slick personals. Aggressive throughout with plenty of effort what with $25K on the line from both battlers, a more condensed Ace Amin with the hotter lines in both the 1st and 3rd rounds, gets the edge here.

Verdict: Ace Amin (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Ace Amin – “You will never pop, I hate to tell y’all, when it comes to Bad Newz there’s never a right time for it!

Nu Jerzey Twork defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Highly competitive and fiery battle between Nu Jerzey Twork and Bad Newz contains a festive load of head-ringing gun bars, gripping street narratives, some wily personals and a boatload of stinging punchlines/name flips from both battlers. Tied going into the deciding 3rd round and even in light of yet another stifling turn by Newz, a more intricate with the punches and condensed Twork edges it in the end.

Verdict: Nu Jerzey Twork (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Nu Jerzey Twork – “I blow the weapon, you try to play me fool then a heckler pop, y’all know I recycle…so I’m a put Newz in a special box!”

Swave Sevah defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Battling prolifically of late, this time around Bad Newz takes on Swave Sevah on the RBE stage for 3 pretty intense and competitive rounds. Round one was littered with haymakers and heavy-handed punches/personals from both battlers, but a slightly more prepared-for-his-opponent’s-angles and smoother with the flow Newz edges the opening round, before a more condensed, set-up/bully-heavy and street scholarly Swave comes back to even things in the 2nd. The deciding 3rd round was close, but with Sevah getting extra mean with it, intricate and witty with the personals along with mixing in some dope bully bars and punchlines, even with Newz dropping a solid and at times, punch-heavy turn, it’s the more consistently nice Team Homi captain who ends up taking this one.

Verdict: Swave Sevah (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Swave Sevah – “You got shot by your Ace?!…damn, King!”

Drugz defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Some day Drugz is just going to have to accept the fact that he might have the easiest moniker in battle rap to name flip. That said, even with a spitfire and ridiculous 3rd round, Bad Newz, for all his gritty bars, storytelling lines and flexing (granted with Drugz talking throughout his turns, being overtly aggressive at times wasn’t his fault) just keeps hurting himself with elongated rounds, in turn, making for too many pedestrian bars and to his opponent’s dismay, a wide of load of subpar name flips. And with a more condensed and consistent Drugz dropping a variety of lyrical shiners, stealth gun bars and rigid personals throughout his first two rounds, add another win to the column for the Gooonies.

Verdict: Drugz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Drugz – “If I clap stubs, he bleeding, not one, I’m dual wielding with the chrome, two pounds on his hip like a Superhero pose!”

Bad Newz defeats Frank Wit Da Grippaz

Recap: Did someone fail to remind Bad Newz of how aggressive these Philly rappers can be? 1st-round, near-tussle aside, an easy vic for Newz as overall his more steady punches and flagrant gun bars deliver more than enough static to beat back 3 pretty pedestrian rounds from hometown battler Frank Wit Da Grippaz.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “I’m a fool with it, since 13 years old Frank, I used to walk with heat, I probably shot my 1st opp around the same time that you lost your teeth!”

Chess defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Take out a clear round 1 win for a more intricate and condensed Chess and you’re left with a spitfire and highly competitive battle here against Bad Newz. Not that Newz had a bad opening round, but by upping the ante and matching his standard aggression with just-as-loaded bar efficiency via a shitload of piercing/boastful punches, rigid gun bars, head-ringing (“I’ll have my little nigga’s distract ya and while they confuse ya, I’ll squeeze on Chess [chest] from the back like the Heimlich maneuver!”) mayhem and gritty personals, the newest member of Tay Roc’s Cave Gang squad was able to validate making the cut. Still, for all of Bad Newz’ determination and grit, Chess was still Chess–the young Bronx spitter brimming with confident throughout his rounds while remaining resolute when it came to dishing more intricate punchlines, fiery name flips, rich anecdotes, stifling wordplay and steely (“I am not here to battle you, I’m just to make sure you get talked right, “I’m just giving Bad game like an off night!”) darts without missing a beat. That said, despite a highly potent turn by Newz in the 2nd, a near perfect, haymaker-drenched round by Chess edges him the round before an emotionally fire, but also hardbody round by Newz earns him in a draw in the 3rd against a still consistently prodigious Chess.

Verdict: Chess (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Chess – “You like pushing on nigga’s in battles?, that’s cool, you facing Chess like my first time playing Chess…don’t be surprised if I make Bad move!”

Swamp defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Even with Bad Newz’s hardbody raps, sometimes abstract shiners and head-ringing mayhem causing plenty of havoc throughout this battle, over the course of 3 rounds, a more consistently nice and versatile Swamp’s more potent punchlines, stinging name flips/personals, gritty street narratives and witty darts prove to be too much for the less intricate Cave Gang member in this fiery Banned battle from Smack/URL.

Verdict: Swamp (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Swamp – “I ain’t playing with not one of these muthafucka’s, its devouring time, last time it was Your Honor, now the honor is mine!”

Don Marino defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Competitive and fierce 1-rounder between newly appointed, NWX member Don Marino and newly appointed Cave Gang member Bad Newz features a host of venom, airy gun semantics and hardbody punches from Newz. But a more versatile and slightly more consistent with the punches Marino–flexing with his storied Mexican bars, but also scoring with plenty of jaunty punchlines/personals, fire set-ups, some stinging Spanglish/hand-offs, witty barbs and a very rare rebuttal that he spit despite going 1st–gets the win here.

Verdict: Don Marino (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Don Marino – “How you gonna stop this?, that’s the mean bars, that scheme hard, not a Chico talking white like I applied for my Green card!”

J. Murda and Bad Newz [DEBATABLE]

Recap: A damn near carbon copy of each other battle-wise with their sheer intensity on stage, braggadocios personas, aggressive raps and ability to light it up with wicked gun bars, it’s only right that this RBE battle between Bad Newz and J. Murda ends up tied. A competitive, touchy-feely and sometimes witty battle for the most part, an amped up, slick with the punches, (“So go ahead, joke, play, lie about how I got shot and that’s a foul, but that shoudl already tell y’all…I already looked Murder in the eyes!”) fiery and way more consistent Newz took the 1st round, before a more condensed Murda steps up his punch game and edges the 2nd. Both battlers got off to a slow start in the deciding 3rd round, but eventually each came through with enough mean punches, stinging name flips/gun speak and greasy mayhem to make this one a draw.

Verdict: TIE

Favorite line: J. Murda – “Against Loso it was ‘Fuck God’, who the first one you was looking for when you was dying nigga!?!”

Tay Roc defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Although the allegations (and they do appear to be true) of Bad Newz stealing a couple of bars here lessens the bite of this battle, him and Tay Roc still put on quite a show what with both battlers dishing some exquisite mayhem, stinging gun bars, some salacious (BN: “He my idol, but tonight in this ring I’m son rifle, ‘bad news’ written all over this hammer, that’s the Gun Title!”) wordplay, gripping personals, snappy performance bars and plenty of gritty punchlines and potent (TR: “If we don’t kill him, we coming back for Newz weekly!”) name flips. Still, for all of Newz’ aggression and potency throughout his round, some pedestrian bars by Newz here and there along with an epic Tay Roc clearly on his A-game, dropping haymakers with rapid abandon with nary any filler throughout, would prove to be too much in the end.

Verdict: Tay Roc (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Tay Roc – “Every nigger in my crew clap for me, I could send Chef and Raw like my food Japanese!”

Rolla defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Each having taken a long break from battling on URL, both Bad Newz and Rolla make their Proving Grounds return and it’s a goodie. Newz dishing hardbody punches with a gritty and often cocky edge, while Rolla talked that O.G. shit with fire set-ups and personals. Close and competitive throughout with lofty gun bars, fiery name flips and some able wit mixed in, it’s a more condensed, pragmatic, versatile and less filler-prone Rolla who edges rounds 1 and 2 for the win.

Verdict: Rolla (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Rolla – “I’m Cooter Brown, iron out, I’m done pressing him…hand grip, one finger move, it ain’t thumb wrestling!”

Bad Newz defeats C Moneii

Recap: Yeah, Bad Newz went overkill with the name flips, but most of them were so fire that that argument is a wash. Factor in too a boatload of fiery punchlines, at times witty barbs and plenty of raucous gun bars/mayhem from Newz and in this very competitive 3-rounder from Bullpen Battle League and you’re left with Newz handily taking rounds 1 and 3 (round 2 was a debatable thanks to a dope rebuttal from Moneii) for the win over a pretty solid, aggressive throughout but not quite as consistent overall C Moneii.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “I wasn’t gonna bring up ya wife, how she be smashing all your bros, In Texas they call her the Grim Reaper ‘cuz in the hood she be snatching nigga’s souls, shit even let me bust [bus] from the back, word to Rosa Parks!”

Bad Newz defeats Bonus

Recap: Displaying a spitfire (“Well, let me get these bars off my chest, like a bench-presser, killing comes pretty natural for me, like a Winchester!”) punch game (esp. during a superb Round 2) to go along with feisty gun bars, some witty barbs and quality personals/wordplay, a never lacking for confidence Bad Newz takes the first two rounds here against a pretty solid and name flip-heavy, but not-quite-as-consistent Bonus for the win, before the Loud Boys vet salvages the 3rd round with a more (“Head shot, give him a face only a mother could love!”) potent and condensed turn than his opponent.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “I’m in ya crib, to make sure you dead while you sleep, old radiators, I’m beside his bed with the heat!”

K-Shine defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Bad Newz’s penchant for solid gun bars and braggadocio room shakers can work against most opponents. But with a more versatile battler and harder-hitting puncher in K-Shine, who besides the aforementioned dalliances, can also mix in incredible wit and performance…well overall, Newz’ tank just isn’t equipped with enough juice here, especially in the 1st and 3rd rounds, thus Shine earning the win.

Verdict: K-Shine (W) 2-1

Favorite line: K-Shine – “They 12 deep?, 6 shot revolver, who gonna die, who gonna carry ’em?, I’ll let these cats choose, ‘cuz whoever don’t die gonna be the bearer of Bad News!”

E-Hart defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Pretty solid, aggressive, raucous and competitive effort by Bad Newz here. But outside of a surprising 2nd round choke, E-Hart’s piercing pen game, fiery wordplay, gritty personals/gun bars and stinging name flips prove to be too much in both the 1st and 3rd rounds for her opponent, thus giving the Bronx, NY, spitter a win in her first intergender battle.

Verdict: E-Hart (W) 2-1

Favorite line: E-Hart – “Loso 3-0, now me, you been getting bodied since, there’s levels when you building and you been in the lobby since!”

Bad Newz defeats Loso

Recap: Agreeing with Danja Zone that this battle between (“The irony, I joined battle rap to give y’all Heaven and caught Hell for it!”) Loso and Bad Newz was close (and fire throughout), doesn’t mean that it didn’t have a winner. As the feeling here is that after witnessing a debatable second as well as a debatable 3rd, the only clear round was the 1st. Which saw Bad Newz line up a more consistently spitfire array of punchlines to beat back an overall solid, but oft-porous turn from Loso. Indeed, Bad Newz, who overall mixed it up a bit more than his opponent did via a slew of hard (“And I heard you got the bricks on the low, well nigga take me to it, Truth or Dare, if he ain’t trying to tell me, then I’m a make him do it!”) gun bars, bully raps, a nice rebuttal to start his 3rd, real-life struggle bars and stinging punchlines, seemed to have a plan going in on staying away, for the most part, the all-too-common Christian rebukes that we see against Loso and instead just relying on having a better pen. And it worked, as a handful of predictable punchlines, subpar personals/name flips and a couple of slow starts to his rounds come back to hurt Loso in the end.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “Snapple fact, you could get a round over words!”

Bad Newz defeats Shotgun Suge

Recap: Bad Newz puts a hit on Shotgun Suge, welcoming the Jersey veteran to the Bullpen Battle League with plenty of fiery personals, sturdy gun bars, potent name flips, some dope wordplay and gritty punchlines. And while Suge hung in there throughout with his own plate of residual mayhem, besides a debatable 1st round, News’ more consistent effort and versatility proved to be too much for Shotgun to take on in the latter rounds.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “Fuck ya squad, a bunch of fake Crips that backstab ya and switch friends, my team loyal, nothing’s uneven here, we split ends!”

Chef Trez and Bad Newz [DEBATABLE]

Recap: The shitload of head nods alone should tell you that this one was a goodie as Bad Newz and Chef Trez go at it for 3 spitfire rounds on the Bullpen Battle League stage. The edge goes to Newz in round one, who even after a bit of a slow start and a consistently cooking turn from his opponent, uses the latter half of his turn to deliver righteous haymakers what with fire (“I’m that athlete on the bench in the suit, I did not come to play!”) punchlines, stinging wordplay and some aggressive personals. And even with Newz continuing to dish plenty of fiery punches in the middle round, it’s Trez who takes the 2nd with raucous gun lines, loaded schemes and some more fly (“The best gossiper, Newz not safe with me!”) name flips. Split going into the 3rd, both battlers stayed on point, with Chef sporting an entertaining/personal-heavy turn that even featured a game newscaster impression as well as some nice (“I do shit he can’t do and honestly nigga it’s over with bars, peep his shirt, you see the league right, why you put this bull over the stars?!”) freestyles that might’ve beaten most opponent’s if not for Bad Newz coming right back with a hardbody, street-savvy and wordplay/punch-lit round that mixed in with a couple of his own freestyles, allowed for a draw to the match.

Verdict: TIE

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “Young nigga, with a lot of .40s, I’m where the cougars at!”

Big Hann defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Immensely fire battle between (“Beating me? You got a better chance of saving Atlantis!”) Bad Newz and (“All it takes is a banana to split his melon, you’ll be Easter fresh, for the last time, in front of your reverend!”) Big Hann with all sorts of mayhem, fierce braggadocio bars, righteous gun lines, some dope name flips and monstrous punchlines dished in all 3 rounds. Close throughout with a huge amount of replay value, the only difference here is who needed less time to get in their bag more. Thus, the 2nd and 3rd rounds to Big Hann for the vic.

Verdict: Big Hann (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Big Hann – “I’m a betting man, and I bet I leave here with your neck in hand, your life was over, as soon as I put your name in these rounds like a wedding band!”

Bad Newz defeats Killa Kel

Recap: Loud, hard, aggressive and gritty 3-rounder between Bad Newz and Killa Kel from Battle Central has Newz delivering more consistent lines of steely mayhem, heated punchlines, gun-certified posits and boisterous, braggadocio flair with rapid ease to out-perform his solid, but not-quite-as-steady opponent.

Verdict: Bad Newz (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Bad Newz – “These little pussy ass niggers, the nigger’s I’m immune to, choppers wake his ass up, like right before a funeral!”
