Recap: Strong, punchline/name flip/mayhem-lit efforts by both Lotta Zay and Riggz in this KOTD Season Week 5 match. And while Zay kept it close and made his presence felt throughout with a gang of aggressive and gritty darts, it’s the slightly more consistently hitting, wordplay-spicy and condensed Riggz who took round’s 1 and 2 (score the 3rd debatable) for the win.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Riggz – “You picked the wrong nigga, y’all better wake the fuck up before I fuck the whole wake teh fuck up!”
Recap: Battling at a rampant pace, but still able to stay on his A-game (much less participate in a tournament), Geechi Gotti uses a gang of mocking personals, gripping gang life banter, steely punchlines and flexing gun bars/wordplay to handily beat back a gun line-lit, but also topsy-turvy Riggz in both of the opening rounds before an elongated 3rd by Geechi (who was complaining about time limits in both of the previous rounds) coupled with a shorter, but gritty, pretty solid-punching and bar efficient turn by Riggz makes the final run of this UM3 opening round bout debatable.
Verdict: Geechi Gotti (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Geechi Gotti – “I been hella gifted, this a level 1 verse Max security, the pen-level different!”
Recap: In a gritty and pretty intense at times battle that took way too long to finish (thanks mostly to crowd noise), after a spitfire, punch-heavy 1st round from Fliiko L, a Riggz who was never quite on his A-game still manages to squeeze in just enough rigid punchlines, dizzying schemes and hitting personals in both of the latter rounds (while also being helped by an elongated 3rd from Fliiko) to take advantage of a less potent Fliiko and edge this win on Bullpen.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Riggz – “Nigga, I set the tone for having a pen inside the pen, I paved the way!”
Recap: In a spirited and competitive 3-rounder from Wartown Battles, after the two split the first couple of rounds, a righteous and punch-heavy at times, but wayward thematically 3rd by Riggz gives way to an also righteous, but consistently personal-lit turn by A. Ward, thus giving the 4 Horseman a well-earned win.
Verdict: A. Ward (W) 2-1
Favorite line: A. Ward – “I told ya, I have no chill like Surf predictions!
Recap: Dope, punch-heavy and consistently fiery battle between JC and Riggz comes down to a spitfire, haymaker-drenched 3rd round from Mr. Carter, whose death before dishonor rhythm’s, rigid name flips/gun bars and systematic breakdowns surrounding demise worked in unison to edge the deciding round and up young Julian’s body count.
Verdict: JC (W) 2-1
Favorite line: JC – “That’s why I brought extensions ‘cuz JC warned y’all about the Latter days!”
Recap: Drugz and Riggz keep it pretty intense, competitive and personal in this URL/Smack App exclusive battle that took place outside somewhere in the Carolina’s. A tight one for 3 rounds that also featured a host of rigid punchlines. well-lit gun bars and fiery name flips, after splitting the first two rounds, a very close and exhilarating on both sides 3rd round is decided by one more haymaker and a bit less filler from the more direct Riggz.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Riggz – “You wanna get uploads on YouTube, I got another funeral to go to…we view different!”
Recap: Plenty of head-ringing/adept punchlines from both sides in this close and competitive 1-round battle between Riggz and Cipha Da Lyrical. Still Riggz, slightly more innovative with the wordplay while showcasing a steadier flow than his opponent, ends up with the win here.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 1-0
Favorite line: Riggz – “Two hecklers, I’ll put you on the Ground King like Bun B or get you leaned to death like Pimp C…pick a group member!”
Recap: Pitted against a boatload of blistering gun bars over the course of 3 rounds from Duce, a personal-spazzing (esp. during angle-lit 3rd round where he put on a judge’s robe to get extra judicious with the pen), mayhem craven and punchline/wordplay-crazy Riggz spouts enough lyrical shiners to take the 1st and 3rd (call the 2nd a draw) rounds and earn the win in this dope battle from Bullpen Battle League.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Riggz – “I’m a goon for real nigga, I just so happen to rap, see this finger and a thumb?, I will actually snap!”
Recap: A gritty and punchline-heavy Riggz and a street shit talking, but also hilarious Squeako make for a dope, competitive and entertaining PG battle on the URL stage. Scoring with spicy punches (“So don’t try me, you know me, be wise, don’t approach me, ‘cuz if need [points to Squeako’s knee] be I keep the strap close like Girbaud jeans!”) after punches in the 1st round, Riggz takes the opener over an opponent who while serving up a solid plate of his own, couldn’t provide enough spice to make up for a slow start. The 2nd round saw both battlers flex with the gun bars/trap talk and even get a bit (esp. Squeako) personal with their bars, but neither stood out enough to make the middle round anything more than a draw. With Riggz still up a round going into the 3rd, the North Carolina spitter shined again with some fine wordplay, witty barbs and festive punches during his final turn. But showing some remarkable resilience, Squeako would come back with an even doper 3rd, a turn that was drenched with some spitfire punchlines, resonating struggle bars and more funky old-school semantics to put him over the top, win the round and make this one a draw.
Verdict: TIE
Favorite line: Squeako – “You average, but your confidence is up to the fullest. talking about your punchline got a punchline….well my gun got bullets!”
Recap: After a debatable 1st round here in this QOTR/Bullpen battle against C3, Riggz’s more animated/spicy punchlines, swerving gun bars and piercing schemes in the latter rounds do enough damage to take rounds 1 and 3 from an opponent, who while dishing a punch-heavy and oft-witty pen throughout the match, when she wasn’t struggling with her flow, couldn’t muster the amount of heat in the following rounds as she brought in round 1.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Riggz – “This ratchet do numbers out this world…it got Hidden Figures!”
Recap: Some gritty punches and schemes, a shitload of mayhem and even a fierce, mid-round rebuttal amounts to Riggz giving Charlie Clips all he can handle. But in this competitive 1-rounder from BullPen Battle League, Clips’ more condensed turn, which featured a gang of fiery 4-bar set-ups, some witty barbs, dope, crowd-pleasing freestyles, jaunty personals/name flips, piercing wordplay and a fly ‘Mannequin Challenge’ performance would be enough to give Charlie the win.
Verdict: Charlie Clips (W) 1-0
Favorite line: Charlie Clips – “John John, lines like that is the reason you brought me back in the building, when I get hype I like to fight, but if I [eye] feel lazy I’ll bring that T-Mac in the building!”
Recap: The highly entertaining Riggz definitely gets downright (“Tell ya mother to chill, ‘cuz I’ll put a hot round in ya Earth Cor!”) ‘nasty’ at times, mixes in some real (“What you know about taking classes in Psychology, but the whole time you the one needing a psychologist?!”) rap talk and most likely becomes the first battle rapper fan give out a present to the fans in the middle of a bar. But a little too much filler along with schemes that didn’t quite hit as much as the crowd let on, plus a plethora of sanguine (“I’mma hit you with the long Tek’s [texts] like wifey when she mad!”) bars, rich storytelling lines, the usual confident (“You do everything I do, your whole style is through me fam, you steal my shit, I steal your shit, them toolies blam, look at him, the hugest fan, it’s proven damn, ain’t this the biggest clone in ATL since Gucci Mane!”) play with words and even a nice rebuttal at the start of the 3rd from Cortez, all combine to give the vet the win.
Verdict: Cortez (W) 3-0
Favorite line: Cortez – “John John you better have this North Carolina, country fuck muthufucka off court ‘cuz I’m a Tar Heels fan, that means fuck Duke if he’s on court [Cort]!”
Recap: A raucous, punch/wordplay-heavy, gun bar-friendly and perfectly executed 1st round from Riggz makes the difference here in this competitive and fiery 3-rounder from Bullpen Battle League. Indeed, while Brixx Belvy upped the ante and delivered a couple of consistently spicy, witty at times, personal-savvy and punchline-lit turns in the latter rounds, his Team Wordplay opponent kept it just as tight with a gang of gritty barbs, fire set-ups and stinging mayhem/punches of his own, making for two debatable rounds while allowing Riggz to hold onto his lead for the win.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Riggz – “You hustle, Brixx”, let me find out that you did squeal, I’ll give you 20 from this .16…that’s my New Years deal!”
Recap: Two things can be true at once. So no, most of Street Hymns’ rhymes were not too advanced or ‘going over your head’, for the most part here in this Bullpen Battle League bout against Riggz, Street;s punches were subpar, his delivery was poor and a failure to adequately embrace so-called ‘nerd bars’ or being a Christian battle rapper showed time and time again as he was too focused on wordplay instead themes and schemes (ex. the excellent Genesismore in line with his in-ring persona. Then too, while hitting at times, yes Riggz was taking in a lot of gas from the crowd throughout this match, especially during the opening rounds, which coincidentally weren’t even his best (that’d be his 3rd). Still, a mostly one-sided battle regardless as while Riggz may need to take some time out to look up what ‘Repentance’ really means, his gritty gun bars, spicy Christianity retorts and flexing punches/personals scored him a 30.
Verdict: Riggz (W) 3-0
Favorite line: Riggz – “Let’s get back to business Streets, your bitch ain’t cha bitch, when you not around she be acting type iffy Streets, I would put you on but where I’m from we consider that snitching Streets, just know she don’t believe in ya God, that bitch be on my sack religiously [sacreligiously]!”
Recap: Solid turns by both (“Them things ringing back-to-back, I ball-hog for my team, I’m an Aryan!”) Riggz and (“You could come to my White House and still see a black ratchet!”) Glueazy in this one-rounder from Body Bag Battle League. However, Riggs takes too long to heat up, saving his best bars for the 2nd half of his round, leaving way for a more consistently bar-heavy Glueazy with just enough room for the win.
Verdict: Glueazy (W) 1-0
Favorite line: Glueazy – “I keep piping these hoes like a hookah bar!”
Recap: Upon dishing punch after punch laced with repeated fire, Chef Trez sums this one-rounder versus Riggz better than I can: ‘You pretty a-ight, but for the most part you rap with filler’.
Verdict: Chef Trez (W) 1-0 Favorite line: Chef Trez – “I’m a gun holder, you about to take a dirt nap bitch, I done put more nigga’s in box since them thirst trap pics!”
Recap: Against a gun bar-heavy but also valiant Riggz, a more versatile and performance-heavy Danny Myers rings up enough sheer mayhem, blistering personals, solid wordplay and piercing schemes/punchlines to take the deciding 3rd round and win this competitive 3-rounder from Miltown Bloe.
Verdict: Danny Myers (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Danny Myers – “Your unemployed bitch has a mean slob, she got a dick in each hand talking about she in between jobs!”
