Recap: Outside of Danny Myers reaching a bit with the name flips and Rolla (“They say never judge a book by its cover, but I could tell a story [points trigger finger] by its index!”) getting a little winded with the punches towards the end of what was a pretty dope turn, a 1-rounder from Tha Smoke Session that was equally littered a gang of well-laced street darts, brutal mayhem and gritty punchlines on both sides still comes up as a debatable nonetheless.

Verdict: TIE

Favorite line: Danny Myers – “You ever found out that your nigga got killed and your face was grim, but you refuse to delete his number because that erases him?!”

Rolla defeats Bad Newz

Recap: Each having taken a long break from battling on URL, both Bad Newz and Rolla make their Proving Grounds return and it’s a goodie. Newz dishing hardbody punches with a gritty and often cocky edge, while Rolla talked that O.G. shit with fire set-ups and personals. Close and competitive throughout with lofty gun bars, fiery name flips and some able wit mixed in, it’s a more condensed, pragmatic, versatile and less filler-prone Rolla who edges rounds 1 and 2 for the win.

Verdict: Rolla (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Rolla – “I’m Cooter Brown, iron out, I’m done pressing him…hand grip, one finger move, it ain’t thumb wrestling!”

Moon defeats Rolla

Recap: Fire battle between Moon and Rolla sees the latter kick that real (“You keep telling me about your robbing spree, I need to hear a story about you being scarred for that!”) shit, segueing between gritty, urban polemics and talking to his opponent in an old-school manner that only a fellow real G could relate to. However, for all of Rolla’s hysterics, Moon more than met the challenge, using witty personals, fire storytelling bars, his own stamped gunplay and fierce (“Nigga’s thinking there’s something so special about ’em…well, so do their mother’s!”) punchlines to garner rounds 1 along with 2, for the well-earned win.

Verdict: Moon (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Moon – “Nigga, my goons is psycho, your psycho is menstrual!”

Bill Collector defeats Rolla

Recap: Rolla’s OG stylings are filled with such gritty street shit, swag and underlying wit that a battle against him feels worth it just for the lessons alone. Still, in this 1-rounder from Body Bag Battle League, while an elongated Rolla scored with a variety of hard-hitting punches and personals, one too many pedestrian bars from the Norfolk, VA battler and a much more condensed, punch/simile-lit and witty Bill Collector gets Double Bar Bill the win.

Verdict: Bill Collector (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Bill Collector – “Clip so big the gun shaped like Oklahoma!”

Rolla defeats T Top

Synopsis: Really good battle, but Rolla got this. His wordplay, name flips, jokes and gritty bars outnumbered and outmaneuvered T Top’s usual trap talk and tough schemes/bars. Having seen Rolla give Tay Rock good comp before, it’s no wonder he held his own here.

Verdict: Rolla (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Rolla – “I’m a southpaw, as soon as you step left, I’m Right witcha!”

Murda defeats Rolla

Recap: From Pit Fights Battle League, gritty and aggressive 3-rounder between Murda and Rolla sees the latter’s hardbody punches, mocking personals and frequent bouts of mayhem amass enough heat to take both of the opening rounds for the win against a condensed and raucous, but until round 3, not quite as consistently hitting opponent.

Verdict: Murda (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Murda – “Go stainless steel, he don’t bang for real like dry humping!”

Tay Roc defeats Rolla

Synopsis: Real good battle. I had no idea who Rolla was before seeing him here, but judging from this battle vs. Tay Roc we need to see more of him–he’d make a good impression on URL’s Proving Grounds stage ’cause he’s funny with performance and has bars (love the shots he took at Roc’s hypeman here). However, Roc was typical Roc tho with aggression, vet status, delivery, nice schemes and just better consistent bars (esp. in rounds 1 and 3) to give him the win.

Verdict: Tay Roc (W) 2-1

Best line: Tay Roc – “You dead, your family gonna need a wigi board to talk to you”
