Rum Nitty defeats Saynt LA

Recap: Saynt has no one to blame but himself for losing this one (and judging from his reaction after the 2nd round he knew it too). Indeed, after getting edged in round 1 by a Rum Nitty too consistent and overwhelming with his variety of sizzling (“Dope boys, who I was impressed with, nigga wanted to be Scarface, since a baby…like a cleft lip!”) haymakers, Saynt refused to back down. The young Inglewood, CA, battler going ham with a wide variety of delicious metaphorical name flips, gritty punchlines and hard-hitting/aggressive lyrical swordsmanship (esp. during a sublime round 3 which Saynt handily won) during both of the latter rounds that would have gotten him the win except for one too many slip-ups during a close 2nd, thus allowing Nitty to take this 3-rounder from West World Battle Rap.

Verdict: Rum Nitty (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Saynt LA – “It’s not a game, but shit even if it was you know that Saynt an issue, like a sibling with a unplugged controller, little bro ain’t playing with you!”

Chess defeats Saynt LA

Recap: Chess versus rising West-coast up-n-comer Saynt had been talked about for a minute now. It was just a matter of getting the former KOTD star on URL. But I’d be lying if I didn’t think that once he finally got here, Smack would give Saynt a tune-up or two before the yung’un got to see the likes of Chess. Guess I was wrong as here they are with Saynt’s URL debut on a Traffic 5 card and for the most part it’s a goodie. Saynt, displayimng confidence throughout the battle, came through with a pretty solid effort (esp. in round 3, his best in the bout), especially scoring with fire personals, gutsy 4-bar setups and rich name flips and all-in-all made things competitive when he wasn’t stumbling a bit with his flow, slipping-up or over-extending himself with elongated turns that were often mired in subpar bars. Still, looking to finish his 2022 with a banger, Chess didn’t come to play. The Young Gawd dialing up a steady and righteous mix of heavy-handed name flips, clever wordplay, sturdy wrestling bars, fiery punchlines and hitting struggle bars/storytelling to pull out both the 1st and 2nd rounds for the win before getting edged to a more haymaker-lit Saynt in the 3rd.

Verdict: Chess (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Chess – “See, he really up here trying to rap with me, and that to me is like Cactus Jack on a shirt…Travis tee [travesty]!”

Saynt defeats Chef Trez

Recap: In a close 3-round GTX battle that was littered with blazing gun bars throughout, in both the 1st and 3rd rounds Saynt takes advantage of an off-the-dome light and less potent with the punches Chef Trez (who surprisingly enough was at his best with the personals here), with a slightly more consistent set-up/punch game that edges the aforementioned rounds for the win.

Verdict: Saynt (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Saynt – “Now everybody’s a gremlin, let this bitch test me, I’ll put this gremlin in a box, that’s a NFT!”

Saynt defeats Real Deal

Recap: With KOTD champ Real Deal (outside of a fire round 3) struggling with his angles and clearly dishing a wide load of inconsistent punchlines in both of the early rounds, I’m not sure how a Saynt that was steadily killing it with a variety of shrewd punches, performance-rich gun bars and hard-hitting set-ups during rounds 1 and 2 manages to lose this battle. But oh yeah, this is KOTD and we’ll just leave it at that.

Verdict: Saynt (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Saynt – “Fuck John Cena, this Black smith is my peace maker!”

Saynt defeats Marv Won

Recap: That Iverson line by Saynt in round 3 was crazy as was Marvwon’s spicy rebuttal in the opening round. Other than that, despite some stiff competition from his veteran opponent, this KOTD Grand Prix 2020 championship final round handily went to Saynt as the young West-coast battler kept his foot on the neck of the Marvelous One with an energetic and steady stream of stinging punchlines/gun bars, some excellent wordplay/metaphors and hard-hitting/witty personals to take the latter two rounds (after a 1st round debatable) for the win.

Verdict: Saynt (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Saynt – “Now since Covid we’ve seen a slight change in the program, we got small crowds, but you be sweating liek it ain’t no fans!”

Saynt defeats Dizaster

Recap: Dizaster’s controversial run in this KOTD Grand Prix tournament finally meets its end as the consistently bubbling punchlines, spicy personals and head-ringing wordplay from Saynt in both of the opening rounds are enough to take each of them for the win over an opponent who struggled with his flow in round 1 and came better with the personals than the punches throughout the match (tho he had a dope 3rd, which he edged).

Verdict: Saynt (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Saynt – “The 90 got him thinking why would he try me, he ain’t know I could draw down, like I’m writing in Chinese!”

Saynt defeats B. Magic

Recap: Hearkening back to the days of Jay Focus and an early John John da Don, here in this KOTD 3-rounder versus B. Magic, Saynt’s fashionable fur coat is not only a bit nostalgic, but in this case fitting in lieu of his eccentric performance bars. Indeed, an often stifling series of varied bar patterns that were only lessened by a flow-challenged 2nd round that even with its more heated moments couldn’t keep up with Magic’s requisite climactic punchlines and fiery name flips. Still, clearly motivated to add a win over a top, punchline vet to his resume, Saynt’s more consistent and gritty punches in addition to his rugged gun bars, pointed personals, flexing name flips and steady mayhem are more than enough to take the 1st and 3rd rounds for the vic.

Verdict: Saynt (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Saynt – “Town Bizness, Smack Volume, you ain’t even been spitting hard, you wanna see some basic Magic, just pick a card!”

Saynt defeats NXT

Recap: A fiery back-n-forth between two of the better West-coast up-n-comers, NXT and Saynt, while the rigid name flips, sizzling gun bars, piercing punches and boastful barbs hold their own throughout the battle, after the two split the opening rounds, a slightly more consistently spicy and personal-lit Saynt edges the deciding 3rd round for the win.

Verdict: Saynt (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Saynt – “He half white, y’all bringing food to me without season!”

Yung Griz defeats Saynt

Recap: One-rounder between Saynt and Yung Griz has them both snapping with rapid punches throughout their turns. But even with Griz rapping almost twice as long as his opponent, his more versatile lines stay consistently potent enough to gain a win.

Verdict: Yung Griz (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Yung Griz – “I let a couple of point at kid’s top like Bart….that was dumb clever, ‘cuz no matter how many years go by, we gonna treat this yellow nigger Young Forever!”

Geechi Gotti defeats Saynt

Recap: With plenty of young swag that was often matched by widespread mayhem via his punches, in this 3-rounder versus Geechi Gotti, a performance-lit Saynt manages to keep things competitive throughout. Yet, for all of his opponent’s verbal wizardry Gotti just came one better in each round, using a fierce palette of gangster steeze, flashy wordplay/punchlines/schemes and stinging personals that often mocked Saynt’s permeable adolescence to earn the 30.

Verdict: Geechi Gotti (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Geechi Gotti – “See, I’m really Cripping, when I first started banging, you probably was too young to come out the house, so unless you getting shot in the face, I don’t want to see ‘Blood’ coming out of your mouth!”
